Restoration Process

Greg Peterson’s passion for billiards started at an early age. Since the early 1970s in his college days of restoring antiques, he has been collecting rare and unusual billiard, snooker, and pool tables. These tables sat for years, warehoused and waiting for the right time to be restored. Greg finally assembled the talent necessary to restore these rare beauties to perfection.

We have a crew of excellent woodworkers and they are masters of finishing. Our staff replaces the inlays that have fallen off of these antiques over their long history. Since ivory is illegal and unavailable, we cleverly cut old piano keys into ivory diamonds to use on the rail tops. These preserve the authenticity of the table by using real ivory diamond sights. The new white ivory sights on refinished rosewood rails are a gorgeous testament to the tradition of billiards.

We do the detective work of determining which type of wood is the appropriate match for existing pieces. Once we find the right wood, we then cut and glue the inlay work onto the table. The new inlay work blends perfectly with nineteenth-century craftsmanship. We handle the demanding job of finishing these tables back to their original glory. We are not satisfied until our work is perfect, often reworking a section of the table until the color is absolutely flawless.

Our staff puts in hundreds of hours on each table preparing it for sale. These antiques are restored with the most exacting attention to detail and authenticity. In our research of table designs, we have found many small decorative skirts and details that are often missing from the old tables. We make sure that when our crew restores a table, it includes all of the subtle details that make it special and unique.

Peters has an extensive collection of beautiful antiques that are completely restored, along with several in the process of restoration.
